PRINCE2 Compliance Assessment
Purpose
The PRINCE2™ Compliance Assessment:
- Measures the degree to which the project complies with the PRINCE2™ method
- Provides the Project Manager with guidance on how an appropriate level of PRINCE2™ use would benefit the specific project
Benefits
- The auditor is independent of the Client's organisation, enabling the project manager to discuss in confidence issues affecting the project
- The auditor uses a coaching approach during the audit interview, which benefits both the Client's organisation and the Project Manager being audited
- The threat of an audit encourages better project governance
- The measurement of the level of PRINCE2™ used on a project is an excellent way to capture change requests on an organisation's working practices, thus contributing towards a continuous improvement model
Method
The PRINCE2™ assessment is a three day activity comprising the following steps:
Step 1 - Preparation
Before the assessment interview a briefing pack is issued to the Client's Project Manager. The briefing pack explains the purpose of the assessment, how it will be conducted and how the project will be assessed. The briefing pack also includes a request for key project documents, which the auditor needs to review in advance. These documents should be available approximately one week prior to the interview.
Step 2 - Interview
The interview will take place on the Client's premises. The Project Manager should bring the Project File to the interview and ideally have access to electronically stored information. The auditor will run through a PRINCE2™ checklist looking for documentary evidence that the project complies with the recommendations described by the method.
Step 3 - Audit Report
The auditor will issue the checklists with annotations of evidence against each of the criteria. The annotated checklists will be accompanied by a two-page audit report. The audit report includes headline observations by the auditor and recommended actions for the Project Manager. The Audit Report will include an overall percentage score as to the level of compliance with PRINCE2™.
Deliverables
- Coaching-based Audit Interview
- Audit Report and Checklist
Reporting & Reviewing
No interim reports or reviews are required for this service.
Assumptions
- The auditor is given sufficient authority to conduct the interview and has access to relevant project documents
- The assessment is confined to a check on the application of PRINCE2™ principles to manage the project - it is not a check on the status of the project
- The audit checklist is against the vanilla form of PRINCE2™. If the Client has tailored the use of PRINCE2™ this may show as non-compliance. WPM will quote to tailor the checklist to match the Client's implementation of PRINCE2™ or to include additional company specific procedures, if required
Price
PRINCE2™ Compliance Assessments are offered for a fixed fee of £2,800 inclusive of expenses for services conducted on the UK mainland. If the assessment is included as part of an overall audit programme, WPM recommends that regular reviews are held to provide an analysis of any underlying trends. Depending upon the volume of PRINCE2™ assessments conducted, these reviews may be offered free of charge.
