Project Management Maturity Assessment Service
Purpose
In a recent survey of 300 large companies by KPMG, 65% reported that their projects were grossly over budget, far behind schedule and/or suffering from technology problems. This Service helps organisations address such deficiencies by enabling them to benchmark their project management capabilities against other organisations (in both the public and private sectors), identify their strengths and address any areas of weakness.
Benefits
- Reduced costs by finishing projects sooner and within budget
- Reduced risk as a result of identifying, analysing and managing risks better
- Realising customer benefits by improving the quality of final products and delivering them sooner
- Sharpened competitive edge (private sector Clients)
- Greater compliance with Government directives (public sector Clients)
Versions
There are three variants of the service:
- Single Self-Assessment Service
- Multiple Self-Assessment Service
- Full Evidence-Based Assessment Service
Method
All variants are delivered in three stages:
1. Fact-finding: The completion of a detailed questionnaire (for Single Self-Assessment Service), multiple questionnaires (for Multiple Self-Assessment Service) or a full audit (Full Evidence-Based Assessment Service) on project management practice within the organisation, a sub-division or department (the Client’s choice). The questionnaire comprises approximately 80 questions on the Client’s project management practice. For the Multiple Self-Assessment Service a number of questionnaires may be completed (usually for different parts of the organisation). For the Full Evidence-Based Assessment Service, the information is collected via a detailed audit conducted by an experienced project management auditor. Evidence is required to substantiate all claims made.
2. Report: The preparation of a report on the fact-finding stage. This includes
- An analysis of the organisation’s strengths and weaknesses against 12 Key Process Areas (KPAs) - criteria such as Project Controls and Risk Management
- The organisation’s position on a matrix, plotting 5 levels of maturity against the 12 KPAs
- A comparative analysis against similar organisations
- Recommendations for addressing any weaknesses
- Industry results
For the Self-Assessment Services the report is approximately 20 pages long (one report per questionnaire completed) and is issued in both electronic and hard copy format at the Presentation.
3. Presentation: A Presentation of the Report’s findings to the Client’s management delivered by an experienced project management practitioner.
